For many of our families, Sunday mornings is the best time in the week for their children to engage and explore their Jewish Identity whilst being with friends from the NLS community. In the past few years, student enrolment has tripled and we are hugely proud of the warm, vibrant and creative learning environment our fabulous team of staff, lay leaders and students have created.

Judaism

As a graduate of our cheder your child will feel proud to be Jewish. They will feel connected to other Jewish people and be familiar with the ebbs and flows of the Jewish calendar including Shabbat, chagim (festivals) and life cycle events. They will have a made friendships with other Jewish children from around the world. They will feel comfortable in a shul service and know their way around a siddur (prayerbook). They will understand some of the principles of Masorti Judaism and the importance of commentaries that are both traditional and modern.

Hebrew

Our goal is to introduce students to Hebrew, and to provide them with reading skills as well as some basic comprehension. To encourage learning we use Hebrew throughout the morning by teaching Hebrew songs, prayers and relevant words. As with the learning of any new language, regular practice is essential. We will offer support and guidance on how you can best support this learning at home.
