New London Synagogue celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1964 and the induction of its new Chazan, Cantor Jason Green, with a civic ceremony based on a Shabbat morning Torah service led by Cantor Green, with liturgical music performed by our Cheder children, the nascent New London Singers and a professional choir assembled specially for the occasion, all accompanied on piano by resident composer and past chairman, Julian Dawes. Honoured speakers included Senior Rabbi of Masorti UK, Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, Chazan Jaclyn Chernett of Kol Nefesh Masorti Synagogue and Director of EAJL, and of course, our own Rabbi Jeremy Gordon and Chairman Stephen Greene. Many Jewish and London-area community leaders were among our special guests.
