Stephen Cotsen

Chazan Stephen Cotsen
Stephen grew up in Cardiff and studied Chazzanut with Chazan Zvi Finkelstein in Cardiff and at Jews' College London. He has previously been the Chazan at the Hackney and the Mill Hill Synagogues (United Synagogue).

In 1995 Stephen joined the New London Synagogue as a member, having been an admirer of the writings of Rabbi Dr louis Jacobs z"l for many years. A short time later, he became Headteacher of the Cheder, a position he held for four years. When Chazan George Rothschild retired in 1999 after 38 years distinguished service, Stephen was invited to succeed him as Chazan. He also serves the Synagogue as its Programme Director, and his responsibilities also include editing the Synagogue's weekly email updates and monthly Newsletter, maintaining the web site and supporting the work of the various committees.

Joseph

Choir
In January 2010, Joseph Finlay was appointed Choir Director. Joseph is a professional composer, pianist and musical director. He studied at Clare College Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music. He has a long standing interest in Jewish music, having written several works on Jewish themes, and having conducted the choir of Central Synagogue and the Yuval Singers.

The Choir has justly earned a reputation as one of the finest Synagogue choirs in London. The choir performs one Shabbat a month at the Synagogue as well as on the Holidays.  To contact Joseph click here
