At NLS we value the journey of each of our children as they prepare to become a ‘child of the commandments’.   We work closely with the family and the B’nei Mitzvah to prepare them to embrace their responsibilities for our Jewish traditions and the community.

Throughout this journey, Rabbi Jeremy, together with Rabbi Natasha, Yoav  Oved – our BM Co-ordinator and Gabriella Spencer-Hope – our Head of Cheder and our wider team will guide and support your child to ensure that their learning will be based upon their individual needs, and that they will be proud of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

Like our Cheder, the B’nei Mitzvah Programme aims to:

  • Treat each child as a unique individual.
  • Enthuse your child with the love of Judaism through dynamic and varied approaches to learning.
  • Provide a safe space for the children where they can make friends and explore their Jewish identity.
  • Involve parents in their children’s Jewish development.

Our BM Programme is a combination of Sunday morning learning, as part of a peer-team of ‘tweens’ who develop friendship and understanding of their emerging Jewish identity together and specific preparation for the big occasion.   We are hugely proud of the extraordinary accomplishment of our BMs who read from the Torah and Haftarah, share words of Torah and very often go on to provide leadership as teens and young adults in the community.
