New London Synagogue is looking for our next Shaliach Tzibbur and Member of our Clergy Team.

We are looking for a skilled leader of our prayer community, with a voice to inspire and lift our community in prayer and the ability to join our clergy team contributing to our dynamic and vibrant community.

New London Synagogue is the founding community of the British Masorti movement. Our tradition in prayer is a combination of Minhag Anglia and more contemporary, playful and participative melodies. We love to join together in prayerful song, are fully egalitarian and welcome and take pride in supporting our lay members (including BMs and recent BMs) as they develop their ability to lead us in prayer on occasion. Currently, we are still running reduced Shabbat and Yom Tov services, owing to Covid, which feature triennial leyning and are debating whether to return to ‘full Kriah.’

The successful candidate will lead almost all our Shabbat and Festival services and join Rabbis Jeremy Gordon and Natasha Mann as a member of our clergy-team. As well as a voice which lifts us in prayer, we are looking for a deep understanding of liturgy, spiritual leadership in keeping with our understanding of Jewish life and a team player with a warm and infectious personality.
Alongside prayer leadership we are looking for someone who can contribute to the community ‘off-the-Bimah’ in any of a range of areas. The precise extent of these additional responsibilities will be explored in conversation with suitable candidates.  Financial remuneration will be commensurate with similar roles in the UK and the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The position could be offered at a range of Full Time Equivalents – not expected to include entirely full-time.

We welcome any interested candidates to explore their suitability for the position in conversation with our recruitment committee. Please share your interest in the position in writing, in the first instance, to Candidates will have the opportunity to explore their suitability in conversation with our search committee. You may also wish to contact Rabbi Jeremy Gordon – to understand more about our community and needs at this time.  Candidates will be invited to submit a recording of their prayer leadership and suitable candidates will be invited to spend a Shabbat at New London later in 2021 or early in 2022.
